AVON GORGE, BRISTOL

In this project, we were given the Le Corbusier’s Domino House structure to work with and make into a residential and work space for the client.

The location given was in Avon Gorge, Bristol. Looking over the Goats Gully and  the river of Avon.

Rachel Whiteread was a sculptor that became famous from being the first woman to win a Turner Prize Award. She sculpts negative spaces of objects using a wide range of materials, the most common being resin and concrete. Despite the fame that came with winning the award, Rachel whiteread has kept quite a private person. She enjoys reading and keeping little ‘treasures’ that are later on used as inspiration for her newer works. She was influenced greatly by both her parents, her mum who is an artist and activist; her dad who is a geography teacher. Hence, her fascination in landscape, traces of weathering and geological movement.

This house is designed as a get away from her busy life in London.
